Leeds Rhinos trip

On Thursday the 26th  of February 30 rugby mad students from Selby High School went on a trip to Leeds Rhinos Rugby Club. The first port of call for the trip was Leeds Rhinos training facilities in Kirkstall where the students enjoyed a fantastic coaching session with Leeds Rhinos coaches. After the coaching session the students were lucky enough to have a Q & A session with Rob Borrow (a current member of the Leeds Rhinos team) asking him questions about life as a professional rugby league player.

The trip then headed to Headingly stadium, the home of Leeds Rhinos. Upon arrival, the students went straight to club café where they sampled the clubs fantastic pie, chips & peas combination, which went down a storm amongst the lads. They then entered the club shop to purchase the latest Leeds Rhinos clothing and match day memorabilia.

Finally, the students sat down to watch a live Super League game between Leeds Rhinos & Huddersfield Giants, which promised to be a close encounter. Prior to the start of the game Leeds Rhinos granted Selby High students special permission to enter the pitch to be the official flag bearers for the game. They walked onto the pitch and held the Leeds Rhinos flag aloft as the players entered the field of play. A few lucky students and staff members managed to get their faces on Sky Sports camera’s which they will never forget.  Following the flag bearing, they sat down to watch the game, which saw a 28-24 victory for Leeds Rhinos.

Both the members of the crowd and Leeds Rhinos staff (including Rob Borrow) commented on how well-mannered and behaved our students were throughout the trip. Furthermore, Leeds Rhinos commented on the strong club-school link within the match day programme making specific reference to the success and popularity of Rugby within the school.
