Outstanding Principal announces Retirement

It is with much regret that as Chair of the Board of Governors of Selby High School, I have recently accepted our Principal, Paul Eckersley’s, decision to retire next Easter.

Paul concludes a hugely successful and rewarding career spanning 42 years in education. The past thirteen years have been spent at Selby High School, where under his leadership, the school became one of the top 100 most improved schools nationally and was judged “good” with outstanding leadership and management in 2013.

As Chair, I am immensely proud to have been part of the incredible successes and achievements Paul has brought about as its Principal. His relentless energy, vision, dedication, passion and drive have created a truly inspirational environment for teaching and learning, where students and staff alike are able to thrive and achieve their potential.

In recognition of Paul’s contribution and latest successful bid for the funding of our new sports hall changing rooms, fitness suite and five new classrooms, the Board of Governors will be naming the facility, The Eckersley Centre.

He leaves the school in an excellent position within the local community and we are truly grateful for his legacy, which will provide a platform and smooth transition for his successor to move forward.

With an ambitious Board of Governors and Senior Leadership Team, we can give an absolute assurance of continuity of provision as we begin the process to appoint Paul’s successor. It has been an absolute privilege and a pleasure to work with Paul.

On behalf of the Board of Governors, staff and students past and present, parents, carers and guardians we thank him sincerely for turning the school into an organisation that is at the heart of the community, and one which cares for all of its students.

We wish him a long, happy and healthy retirement.
