Riders ready..... Pedals ready.....

The second annual North Yorkshire School Games cycling finals took place at the closed road cycling track at York Sport.

With the buzz and feel good factor of last year’s Tour de France and this year’s Tour de Yorkshire, nearly 100 young people from schools in North Yorkshire descended on York to battle for the crown of School Games county champions for 2015.

The event was run by staff from British Cycling who provided a combination of races including time trials and relays, with all of the teams taking part having come through a local district level cycling competition to earn the honour of representing their district as well as their school.  Selby High pupils qualified to represent the Selby District Area at the event and duly did themselves proud with their level of commitment and team work in all events.  All pupils gave their all in some thrilling cycle racing, the school managed to secure a place in the final of the team relay after a fantastic display by the Yearr 8 team.  They did not manage to finish in the medals but competed well against a strong field from the York district area.  The individual time trial proved to be a strength for Selby with Alex Kirk finishing 5th out of a field of twenty five Year 9 boy riders, in the girls race Iris Guscott was narrowly pipped at the post  to cross the line in 4th place, closely followed by Josie Brooke in 5th.  All riders thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to the opportunity to improve their result next year.
