Well done to Selby High School’s Year 11 students on some outstanding results

Despite the reported significant decline in this year’s GCSE results, the high quality of teaching and learning, together with the commitment of students at Selby High School has ensured that they continue to make excellent progress across a whole range of subjects, compared to other centres across the country.

In addition, the school’s continued priority of investing in learning facilities ensures that students have a modern environment and resources to support their study. Investment in IT has resulted in the new Hemingway Suite being built which, in turn, has enabled students to achieve superb results in the new subject of Computer Science and other Information Technology qualifications. We are looking forward to seeing further improvements in coming years as a result of our current building projects which include improvements to our sports hall and additional classrooms.

Principal, Paul Eckersley, said, “I am particularly delighted with the result of the new Progress 8 measure which shows that students at Selby High School make good progress and achieve good outcomes when they leave in Year 11. It was also extremely pleasing to see that over 70% of our students achieved at least 5 A*-C grades.”

Paul Eckersley applauded the hard work of students and staff in achieving such excellent results and highlighted in particular the outstanding results achieved in Mathematics, 79% A*-C, the sciences, Astronomy 93% A*-C, Biology 95% A*-C, Physics 96% A*-C, Chemistry 99% A*-C, English Language 88% A*-C, English Literature 97% A*-C, Music Technology 100% A*-C, Textiles 95% A*-C, Geography 82% A*-C, Drama 76% A*-C, Art 75% A*-C, Music 75% A*-C, and PE 75% A*-C.
