Year 5 Specialism Days

During the past two weeks, 13th- 27thJune, the Selby High School annual primary specialism days have been taking place. Four hundred and twenty Year 5 students from fifteen primary schools have been transported into Selby High to spend the day working in the school’s specialism areas of science and the arts.

The Year 5 students had the opportunity to experience the specialist equipment, resources and teaching. They also had the support and guidance of Selby High School students who led by example and enthusiastically participated, giving support and advice wherever possible.

In science the Year 5 students had great fun creating a candle and a bath bomb which they could take home, before taking part in two different arts workshops in the afternoon. Highlights included drama activities led by our own students, using the iPads in media studies and competing against one another on the dancemats.

All the primary school staff commented on  the positive experience and student enjoyment as well as the ideas and activities they could take back to use within their own schools.
